Policies
At Telephone Services, our mission is to provide the University community with
innovative telecommunications and mainstream technology, such as Caller I.D. and
fiber optics. This technology plays an integral role in supporting the development
of programs, grants, research, and day-to-day communication. We acquire, install,
and maintain telecommunications equipment and services for the University of Tennessee,
and we supply the necessary infrastructure upon which information is exchanged,
including telephony, data circuits, and cable television programming. In supplying
this infrastructure, Telephone Services is helping the University of Tennessee become
a connected campus and fostering a successful business relationship with the students,
faculty, and staff.
To request Telecommunications service, you may fill out our
online form or send an email detailing your service and/or equipment needs and account
number to telephoneservices@utk.edu. Please
send a carbon copy of the email to the person in your department authorized to commit
resources. If desired, you may fax your Telecommunications service request to Telephone
Services at (865) 974-8546. Requesting department will receive an email confirmation that the
order has been received, the assigned service order number, and contact names and telephone
numbers. The work request will be completed within ten business days, depending on Telephone
Services work schedule. If there is a specific date before which the work cannot be performed,
or if there is a date on which you would like to have the work performed, please include it
in the email/fax. Telephone Services will make every effort to accommodate your request, as
long as it does not infringe on a commitment to another customer. Please take into
consideration that if the requested service date is prior to the 2 weeks standard
installation, you will be subject to a "rush" service order charge (see cost below).
The hourly labor rate is $50.00 per hour. Rush service order charge
is $75.00 per hour.
A written estimate of cost may be requested. Estimates are based on meeting with the
department and survey of location where the work is to be performed. However, unforeseen
conditions during the course of work may necessitate additional work and/or materials.
Cost associated with the additional work and/or material will be the responsibility of
the requesting department.
The written estimate will be forwarded to the customer for written approval. Upon receipt
of approval the service order will be initiated.
Charge for cost estimate is $25.00.
