Unfortunately, there is no easy diagnosis for this error message. However, there are several things that you can try which might alleviate this error. Because this problem stems from an inability for your modem to handshake with UT's modem pool the cause may or may not be a local problem and if these suggestions do not solve the problem, we recommend that you call the Helpdesk. The first step that you want to take is to restart your system. If this does not fix the problem, your modem may be experiencing problems with line noise. If you have a telephone connected to this line, pick the phone up and listen for static. If you hear any crackling, you will need to call the phone company and report the problem. If you are still unable to connect, you consider downloading an updated driver for your modem. A good place to find such a driver is either on your computer manufacturer's website or at a site such as
56k.com or
driverguide.com. If you are still having problems, we suggest contacting the Helpdesk at 974-9900.
