How do I clear a test or survey attempt in my course site?

By default, students are not allowed to access a test or survey more than once. If you permit students to access an assessment only once, you may occasionally need to clear a student's assessment attempt so that she or he can access the assessment a second time. For example, you might want to allow a student to access a test again, if his or her computer crashed or lost its connection to the network.

Clearing a student's assessment attempt will delete any responses that were saved before the network disruption. Always review a student's test results carefully. If some answers were saved, you should copy and paste them into a Word document before clearing the assessment attempt.

  1. From within your course Control Panel, select Grade Center.
  2. In the grade spreadsheet, locate the column for the test and match it to the row with the student for whom you want to clear the test attempt.
  3. Where the column and row meet, click on the double-down arrow button to select Grade Details.
  4. On the Grade Details page, click the Clear Attempts button.
  5. When prompted, click OK to clear attempt. The student may now retake the test/survey within the designated date and time limits.
