Windows XP Installation Instructions for 3Com OfficeConnect Wireless LAN PC Card

Important Notes:

  • You may need your Windows XP CD to install this card.
  • Please note there are many things in these instructions that are case sensitive.
  • The XJack antenna must be extended to connect to the wireless network.

Installing the Card

  1. Turn on your laptop and make sure it is finished loading all programs.
  2. Insert the wireless card into your PCMCIA slot as shown below.

  3. Windows should find the wireless card, and you should be prompted to install the necessary software. Select the box marked Install the software automatically and click Next.

  4. The following screen may appear. Click the Continue Anyway button .

  5. If your Nomad CD has not already been inserted into the CD-ROM drive, you may receive the following dialog box. Insert the CD and click OK.

  6. A Country Selector Dialog box will appear. Select the United States and click OK.

  7. A dialog box should appear telling you that the installation was completed successfully. Click the Finish button.
  8. Click Start / Connect to / Wireless Network Connection.

  9. The following dialog box should appear. Click the Advanced button.

  10. Under the Preferred networks section of the following dialog box, select the Add button.

  11. The Wireless Network Properties dialog box should appear. Enter nomad into the Network name field and then click OK.

  12. Your wireless network connection should now be ready to use.

Registration

After you have your wireless card installed and configured, you will need to register to gain access to the wireless network. To register, open up your web browser (IE or Netscape). You will automatically be taken to the network registration site, http://netreg.utk.edu/. Follow the online instructions and within a few minutes your computer will be ready to use Nomad.
