Do you already have OperaThe Opera browser is available from the online store. Unfortunately, unless you have previously used your Wii on the Internet and downloaded Opera at that time, you will not have access to download Opera until after your Wii has been registered. For registration information, see below.

Wii with Opera
If you already have downloaded the Opera browser, you can use the same registration process that a computer uses to register your Wii. Connect your Wii to the UT wireless network (if available). The wireless network information is as follows:

  • Network Name: ut-open
  • Encryption: Disabled or None
  • Authentication: Open

After connecting to the wireless network, open Opera and go to http://netreg.utk.edu. Click on Register Your Computer and follow the instructions.

Wii without Opera
If you do not have Opera installed, you can manually register your Wii online. Please remember that although gaming devices are allowed on the student network, The Office of Information Technology does NOT provide technical support for any such devices.

Before registering your device, you will need to know the MAC address of your system.

The MAC Address is a 12-digit identifier containing both letters and numbers. If you do not know your MAC address, you can try following the instructions below. As stated earlier, we do not provide technical support for these devices and if these instructions do not work, you will need to contact the manufacturer, NOT the HelpDesk.

Finding the wireless MAC address of the Wii:
From the Wii Channel menu, select "Wii Settings" (the round button on the bottom-left of the screen with "Wii" on it). Select "Internet," then "Console Settings." The MAC address of the Wii console is displayed on the first line.

Finding the Wii ethernet adapter MAC address:
If you do not have wireless access, or you prefer to use a wired network port, you first must purchase the Nintendo Wii LAN Adapter. The MAC address should be written on the side of the adapter. If the MAC address is not clearly visible, follow these instructions:

  1. From the home screen, select the "Wii" button in the lower left hand corner.
  2. From here, select "Wii Settings" which will be the on-screen button on the right.
  3. On the this screen, select the right arrow to advance to the 2nd set of settings.
  4. Select the "Internet" option.
  5. Select the "Console Information" option.
  6. The MAC address will be listed under "USB Ethernet Adapter MAC Address".

Registering your Wii
Now that you have the MAC address of your Wii (wired or wireless) visit http://netreg.utk.edu/games/ and follow the instructions.
