Follow these steps to set up and register your PSP for the UT wireless network:

  • When you turn the PSP on without a game or movie in it, it will come up to a desktop like screen. You will have various options running horizontally across it.
  • Go to the settings option (farthest one on the left) and go down to Network Settings (the very bottom option.)
  • Choose Infrastructure Mode and then New Connection. Any time during the creation of a connection, if you want to go to the next screen you just press to the right.
  • On the first screen choose a Connection Name and enter a name for the profile.
  • On the second screen it will ask for the SSID and encription. Set the SSID to "nomad" and encryption to "none". There is also a scan option on this screen, but if you try to scan for the Network (even after specifying nomad) it will not find it. This is not a problem and you can just move on.
  • Next it gives you a choice for address settings. If you choose Easy it will set everything up for you correctly.
  • The next screen just shows you all of the options you have set, so you can just skip it.
  • It will then ask you to press X to save the settings. Once it has saved the setting it will bring up an option to test the connection. If at this point you get an error that says "a connection error has occurred. the wlan switch is not turned on on" look on the left side of the PSP and flip the switch UP and begin the process again.
  • After you choose "test the connection" it should make the connection and bring up a page with your signal strength, IP, etc.
  • One of the last things listed on this page will be your MAC address. Write your MAC address down.
  • To complete your registration, have your MAC address ready and visit http://netreg.utk.edu/games/ and follow the instructions.

If you have difficulty with the registration process, please call the OIT HelpDesk at 974-9900 or come in person to the OIT Service Center at the Commons in Hodges Library M-F 9am-4pm.
