How to Order Computer Equipment

What To Do Before Ordering

Your department may purchase a computer from any of the university PC contractors; however, Dell is currently the only contractor providing recommended UT configurations for their systems. If you don't already have your mind made up on a contractor, you may begin by reviewing the recommended configurations offered by Dell (Dell Premier Price List) to see if they meet your departmental needs. If these Dell recommended configurations do not meet your needs, you can configure another Dell system by choosing the Full Catalog icon on their recommended configuration page.

If you can not find a Dell computer which will meet your needs or if you want to look at other computers, some of the other PC contractors provide online configurators as well. NOTE: OIT is not responsible for the pricing found on the web sites of our various contractors.

Use the vendor contact information page, if you are interested in purchasing equipment from a university contractor which does not provide an online configurator/price list, or if you have any other questions regarding available equipment.

Consultants in the Lan & Desktop Support Team are available at 974-9800 to help answer questions of a technical nature. Larry Scalf is also available for customer support at 974-4098.

In most cases the entire product line of the contractor will be included on the university contracts; however, there are some notable exceptions:

  1. Hewlett-Packard (HP) products: Departmental purchases of HP products must be obtained from one of the university HP contractors. HP systems must be purchased from the CDW-G contract. HP printers must be purchased from the PCS contract.
  2. Third party peripheral equipment: University contracts for hardware equipment (Dell, CDW-G, or PCS) also cover third party peripheral items produced by other manufacturers.
