On December 10, 2002, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. the University of Tennessee will participate in Megaconference IV, a worldwide remote-by-Internet event for live demonstration and discussion of Internet-based video conferencing.

Megaconference IV will be a series of live presentations from authors all over the world, all provided over the Internet using H.323 video conferencing technology.  H.323 is the worldwide standard protocol for delivering high quality audio and video content via the global Internet.  The focus of Megaconference IV will be on the practical use of H.323 technology for distance learning and for communication with far away places.

The Technology Evaluation group from the Customer Technology Support will provide several local venues for observing and participating in Megaconference IV.  The interactive "home base" will be located in the Shiloh Room of the University Center.  From there you will be able fully participate and to ask questions of any of the speakers presenting during the Megaconference.  Several UT faculty are tentatively schedule to make presentations, with the exact schedule to be announced in a few days.

Live feeds of the event via streaming media will also be available at several remote campus locations:  Digital Media Services at 209 Hodges Library, the International House on Melrose Avenue, Advanced Internet Technologies at 313 Conference Center, or on the Ag Campus at the Vet Teaching Hospital.  The remote locations will provide a UT-specific "mini-conference" between the local sites in which participants can discuss the Megaconference content and how the technology can be utilized at UT.
